Coming off a 10-win season and Sun Belt title after four seasons at Marshall, Charles Huff spent last season engineering a quick and impressive turnaround at Southern Miss leading the Golden Eagles to a 7-5 and postseason berth in the New Orleans Bowl before he ultimately decided to take the Memphis job.
Hired back in December, Huff quickly put together an impressive staff at Memphis. Those hires included landing Old Dominion offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Kevin Decker to run the Tigers offense, and Jason Semore (who had previously worked with him at Marshall and Southern Miss) as his defensive coordinator along with a host of familiar faces on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball to bolster the assistant coaching spots.
Now he's reportedly adding a pair of former NFL assistants to that loaded staff as well.
Kerry Joseph and Bryan Bing are both reportedly joining Huff's staff at Memphis, according to a report from CBS Sports this morning.
Joseph spent last season at the college level as a special assistant to head coach Steve Sarkisian at Texas, and the year prior to that was the quarterbacks coach for the Chicago Bears.
After a few seasons at the FCS level with coordinator roles at McNeese State (FCS - LA) and Southeastern Louisiana (FCS), Joseph made the jump to the NFL as an offensive assistant with the Seahawks in 2020. Heading into the 2021 season he was elevated to assistant receivers coach, and spent the 2022-23 seasons as assistant quarterbacks coach before leaving to coach the Bears quarterbacks for the 2024 campaign.
Bing also spent time in Chicago on the Bears staff, and last February he made the move to the Dallas Cowboys, becoming the fourth member of the Bears staff to follow defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus south to The Star. Bing, who was the assistant defensive line for the Bears, served as the Cowboys assistant defensive line coach last season. Eberflus and the Cowboys ended up parting ways after one season where they ranked 30th in total defense, and then dead last in pass defense (252 yards per game) and scoring defense after allowing a franchise record of over 30 points per game, and they also ranked 23rd in rush defense in the NFL last season as well.
